Pre-Board Accomplishments

  • Served on the boards of various Oakmont clubs including Sunday Symposium, Saturday Golf Club, Pickleball (current membership chair) and Boomers (past president)
  • Delivered a presentation to Oakmont Sunday Symposium on the topic of transpartisanship (an emerging paradigm of political thought which accepts the validity of truths across a range of political perspectives and seeks to synthesize them into an inclusive, pragmatic container beyond typically political dualities)
  • Co-founded the Oakmont Spirituality Collaborative
  • Received Oakmont's 2022 Community Service Award for overall contributions to the community

Board Accomplishments

Elected twice to the OVA board; served as president both times. Under my leadership, our board accomplished the following:

  • Established a focus on civility and transparency, significantly lowering the community "temperature."
  • Purchased Oakmont's golf facilities with nearly 75% membership approval and over 80% of households voting, protecting Oakmont from developers intending to build homes on Oakmont golf course fairways
  • Completed conversion of two tennis courts at the East Recreation Center to pickleball courts; oversaw pickleball court dedication and opening
  • Established the Oakmont dog park
  • Introduced vaccination clinics at the Berger Center
  • Renovated the East Recreation Center within budget, providing ADA compliance, a fire sprinkler system and extensive modernization
  • Introduced board meeting member packets containing all non-confidential Board information
  • Added structure to board meeting resolutions to increase board discussion efficiency and ensure a vote on each agenda item
  • Introduced community comment after each resolution
  • Added emergency power generation capabilities to keep OVA offices and CAC/Berger Center operational during power outages
  • Replaced costly video recording services with Zoom-based recordings for all public OVA meetings
  • Introduced neighborhood gatherings, where several board members would show up in any Oakmont neighborhoods that asked for us to talk about any topics of interest or concern
  • Introduced the Social Call program to address member loneliness
  • Introduced the Oakmont Neighbors Together program to provide dues assistance to those experiencing financial difficulties
  • Established a program to help Los Guillicos residents with clothing and other needed items
  • Engaged in efforts to keep a cannabis dispensary out of Oakmont
  • Established Oakmont as an official Firewise USA community
  • Established the Community Education and Transparency Committee to advocate for residents and to push the board to ensure transparency for Oakmont residents
  • Established the Aid for Sub Associations Committee to recommend actions to help Oakmont's sub associations more easily find and train leaders and withstand financial hardship
  • Working with local law enforcement, arranged for the opening of Wild Oak gates in the event local authorities determine Oakmont residents can safely evacuate through Wild Oak during fires and other severe events, thereby helping avoid extra clogging of Highway 12 during emergencies
  • Installed solar panels in each Recreation Center parking lot, reducing electrical utility costs
  • Established a five-phase project management system to be used for all major Oakmont projects executed by the board
